I passed Emma’s Cantina Mexicana in the old part of Puerto del Carmen last year, and was tempted to go in and try it.  Unfortunately, on the evening that I was planning to go there it was closed, so I didn’t actually get to.

However, I hear it comes highly recommended, and allegedly has the only native Mexican chef on the island - which considering the number of tex-mex restaurants is quite a feat in itself.

So since I won’t be going back there myself this year, perhaps anyone who goes there could leave a short comment on this blog and tell me how it is?   Go on, make me jealous!

Lani’s is a chain of restaurants on Lanzarote. Each restaurant has a culinary theme on which the menu is based.

If you follow the Avenida de la Playas long enough, you eventually come to Lani’s Indian Tandoori, serving a variety of Indian dishes, but also a selection of standard cuisine for people prefer something else. This can be useful if you are in a group and not everyone is into Indian food - other Indian restaurants tend only to have Indian dishes and are therefore not so suitable.

Although the food is good, I find this restaurant a bit pricey - starting from the bread rolls and butter, and continuing with the size of the portions and the fact that for most things you have to pay extra for rice. So to make it worthwhile, you really do want to have good Indian food in a restaurant that is not doing exclusively that.

Unfortunately, the German translation of the menu takes some deciphering as it is often a literal translation from English, leaving the German tourist completely baffled as to what is on offer.

For visitors to the old town of Puerto del Carmen it is also a long way to walk (about 45 minutes, if you don’t stop to look at the souvenir shops on the way!).

La Rueda II is a so-called “Tex-Mex” restaurant in the old town of Puerto del Carmen. Although located in Avenida del Varadero, the actual entrance is situated in a side street on the other side (Virgen del Carmen, on the corner of Calle Lanzarote). Here you will usually be greeted by a member of staff outside the restaurant - even if you don’t go in, children will love the lollipop!

The food is very good and one of the highlights must be the fajitas that come with the meat sizzling in an iron frying pan for you to roll up youself. This is actually one of the best value items on the menu.

The restaurant has a balcony overlooking the harbour with tables for all sizes. Closer to the edge of the balcony you can look down onto the bowling court, or just enjoy the view across the water towards Fuerteventura.
