Lanzarote Magazine features all of the latest news from across the island. Covering lifestyle, sports, food and drink, events, property, travel and much much more besides.

The website’s attractive and easy to use design provides the ideal backdrop for high quality photography and images of the island. Along with daily news snippets and in-depth feature articles.

According to the publishers; “Lanzarote Magazine is designed to provide both tourists and residents alike with all of the latest news from the island in an easy to read format. Despite the current economic climate Lanzarote will still welcome hundreds of thousands of English speaking tourists this year. Whilst the island also has a sizeable expat population.”

“Currently there isn’t really any English language media out there that provides up the minute news information and good quality lifestyle features. We aim to change that and have plans to introduce a print version of Lanzarote Magazine in the future.

The Autumn edition of the Lanzarote Guidebook has been released and is available as a free download from the Lanzarote Guidebook Website.

The 96 page guide, written by long term island residents, includes up-to-date information about the resorts on the island, and also details of events in the coming months such as the Costa Musica festival in Costa Teguise next week.

It also includes essential information such as the opening times of banks, prices of taxis and emergency telephone numbers.

Published in A6 format, the guide is distributed free to tourists on the island, but if you would like a printed copy before you leave – and you live in the UK or Eire – then you can order a copy on the website.

Starting in October there will two flights per week to and from both Frankfurt-Hahn and Düsseldorf-Weeze, and Ryanair are promising low prices on the routes thanks to a 100% discount on airport tax from AENA, who operate the airport in Arrecife.

There are, however, two big “buts” to consider.  Firstly, the flights are currently only available until the end of March 2010.  Deputy CEO of Ryanair Michael Crawley is quoted as saying that the continuation of flights beyond that point is dependent on that discount being extended.

The other consideration that potential travellers should consider is the location of the airports in Germany.   Düsseldorf-Weeze is 75km from Düsseldorf, and Frankfurt-Hahn is a staggering 126km from Frankfurt itself.  It remains to be seen if the additional expense of getting to those airports outweighs the savings of the flight, or whether tourists will remain loyal to existing carriers.

If I had to think of places where the people in restaurants and hotels were unfriendly to their guests, then Lanzarote would probably not have featured very highly (although I can think of some good examples in Germany and the UK).  In fact, my only real complaint about restaurants on Lanzarote would be that they charge for rolls and butter without asking and sometimes feign a lack of English when there is a problem with the bill.

Perhaps they are worried about the falling numbers of visitors to the island this year.  But I would have thought that that had more to do with the World economy than with the attitude of the taxi drivers.

As far as the restaurants are concerned, investing in decent translations of the menus might be a better investment!
